200 years of the Restoration of the Society of Jesus in 1814

The 7th of August 2014 marks 200 years of the restoration of the society of Jesus in 1814. Pope Clement XIV suppressed the Society of Jesus in 1773. He was felt pressured by the royal courts of Portugal, France and Spain. This remains an episode of witnessing to the suffering Christ in the history of the Society. Jesuits all over the world were driven in exile after being made to renounce their vows. The Suppression lasted until 1814 when Pope Pius VII restored the Society with the bull "Solicitudo omnium ecclesiarum.”

The Superior General of the Jesuits, Father Adolfo Nicolas, comments on the 200 years anniversary of the Restoration of the Society of Jesus on a new website built to commemorate the event.
