Jesuits in Theology Studies

Theology Studies is the stage of Jesuit formation leading to diaconate and priestly ordinations. Thus, it is a very special period in the overall formation of a Jesuit scholastic. What is particularly intended at this stage is a solid academic formation in theology through reflection on the mystery of Christ and his Church in the study of Sacred Scriptures and all other areas of theology. The study of theology enables the scholastic to penetrate deeper into God’s plan of salvation in Christ, within which is located the mission of the Society at the service of the Church; he is thus readied to be a minister of the word and sacraments especially the sacraments of the Eucharist and reconciliation.

What is more, theology studies provide a privileged opportunity to prepare scholastics for the service of the faith, and the promotion of the justice of the gospel, the evangelization of cultures and dialogue with other religions. Consequently, it entails engaging in apostolic activities that enable the development of pastoral attitude and the acquisition of vital ministerial skills. In this period of formation, as throughout the previous ones, proper integration of spiritual, communitarian and apostolic life remains a desired goal.
